Archbishop Dermot Clifford, of the Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly, submitted his resignation to Pope Francis when he celebrated his 75 birthday in January 2014. The resignation was accepted in November and on the 22nd Bishop Kieran O’Reilly, Bishop of Killaloe Diocese, was named as his successor. Archbishop O’Reilly will be installed as the new Archbishop of Cashel and Emly on Sunday February 8.
Archbishop Clifford led the Archdiocese for 26 years; he had succeeded Archbishop Thomas Morris who ordained quite a number of our members during his time as Archbishop. As a community we are very grateful to Archbishop Clifford for the friendship and support he showed to us throughout these years and we wish him continued good health and happiness in his retirement.
Emmet O’Hara and the community in Thurles invited Archbishop Clifford to a farewell dinner in the College on January 31.
