Novena to St. Vincent Pallotti Day 4

Day 4, January 17th.

Pope Francis on prayer of intercession:Prayer of supplication is an expression of a heart that trusts in God and realizes that of itself it can do nothing. The life of God’s faithful people is marked by constant supplication born of faith-filled love and great confidence. Let us not downplay prayer of petition, which so often calms our hearts and helps us persevere in hope. Prayer of intercession has particular value, for it is an act of trust in God and, at the same time, an expression of love for our neighbour. There are those who think, based on a one-sided spirituality, that prayer should be unalloyed contemplation of God, free of all distraction, as if the names and faces of others were somehow an intrusion to be avoided. Yet in reality, our prayer will be all the more pleasing to God and more effective for our growth in holiness if, through intercession, we attempt to practise the twofold commandment that Jesus left us. Intercessory prayer is an expression of our fraternal concern for others, since we are able to embrace their lives, their deepest troubles and their loftiest dreams. Of those who commit themselves generously to intercessory prayer we can apply the words of Scripture: “This is a man who loves the brethren and prays much for the people” (2 Mac 15:14). Gaudete et exsultate 154.

St Vincent Pallotti wrote in 1823: “In presenting at the throne of the Most High the groans of prisoners, the wretchedness of orphans, the extreme needs of pilgrims, the destitution of the poor, the extreme agony of the dying, the anguish of the sick, the weakness of those who have reached old age, the sighs of the young, the perils of virgins, the laments of widows, the tribulations of all peoples, the needs of the Church of Jesus Christ, let us implore together heavenly blessings upon us and upon the whole world.” OCL I, p. 191.

Novena Prayer

St. Vincent Pallotti, you were formed and called by God, the Infinite Love.
You answered God’s call to serve.

You were there:
for those seeking forgiveness and counsel,
for the sick,
for the youth and the aging,
for the rich and the poor,
for the people of every profession and walk of life.

Every person is important to you.
You inspire us to seek God in all things,
Reminding us of our call to be apostles
In the Church and in the world.

Now we call upon you to intercede for us.

Help us to pray. Help us to pray only for what we truly need;
Help us to grow in holiness, to live for the honour of God and for the salvation of our neighbour. You received many graces from God and we ask you to bless us now by presenting our petitions to God (Pause to mention your intentions)

With you we give thanks to God as if He had already granted us what we have asked in the name of Jesus who lives and reigns with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen!

St. Vincent Pallotti, pray for us
Our Lady Queen of Apostles, pray for us
Our Father…Hail Mary…Glory be…
