Novena to St. Vincent Pallotti Day 6

Day 6, January 19th.

Pope Francis: “There is a Marian “style” to the Church’s work of evangelization. Whenever we look to Mary, we come to believe once again in the revolutionary nature of love and tenderness. In her we see that humility and tenderness are not virtues of the weak but of the strong who need not treat others poorly in order to feel important themselves. Contemplating Mary, we realize that she who praised God for “bringing down the mighty from their thrones” and “sending the rich away empty” (Lk 1:52-53) is also the one who brings a homely warmth to our pursuit of justice. She is also theone who carefully keeps “all thesethings, pondering them in her heart” (Lk 2:19). Mary is able to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and small. She constantly contemplates the mystery of God in our world, in human history and in our daily lives. She is the woman of prayer and work in Nazareth, and she is also Our Lady of Help, who sets out from her town “with haste” (Lk 1:39) to be of service to others. This interplay of justice and tenderness, of contemplation and concern for others, is what makes the ecclesial community look to Mary as a model of evangelization. We implore her maternal intercession that the Church may become a home for many peoples, a mother for all peoples, and that the way may be opened to the birth of a new world. It is the Risen Christ who tells us, with a power that fills us with confidence and unshakeable hope: “Behold, I make all things new” (Rev 21:5).” EG 288.

St Vincent Pallotti wrote of Mary in 1846: we “have Mary Most Holy as an effective example in the works of charity and zeal themselves since, although she was neither priest nor apostle, she engaged in them with such perfection and fullness that she has deserved glory above that of the holy Apostles. Hence the Church, not only as a title of honour but in full recognition of her merits, salutes her with the august title ‘Queen of Apostles’ and so, by this title, all priests and all lay people and everyone of both genders and of every state, rank and condition will be inspired to imitate our Immaculate Mother Mary Most Holy in all their undertakings for the greater glory of God and in all corporal and spiritual works of mercy for the benefit of our neighbour’. OOCC III, p.6-7.

Novena Prayer

St. Vincent Pallotti, you were formed and called by God, the Infinite Love.
You answered God’s call to serve.

You were there:
for those seeking forgiveness and counsel,
for the sick,
for the youth and the aging,
for the rich and the poor,
for the people of every profession and walk of life.

Every person is important to you.
You inspire us to seek God in all things,
Reminding us of our call to be apostles
In the Church and in the world.

Now we call upon you to intercede for us.

Help us to pray. Help us to pray only for what we truly need;
Help us to grow in holiness, to live for the honour of God and for the salvation of our neighbour. You received many graces from God and we ask you to bless us now by presenting our petitions to God (Pause to mention your intentions)

With you we give thanks to God as if He had already granted us what we have asked in the name of Jesus who lives and reigns with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen!

St. Vincent Pallotti, pray for us
Our Lady Queen of Apostles, pray for us
Our Father…Hail Mary…Glory be…
