Papal Audience, St. Peter’s Square, April 10, 2024
“… present at the general audience in St. Peter’s Square were members of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (SAC) from Ireland, Poland, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, the United States, Australia, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, India, Cameroon, Tanzania.
On this occasion, the “sons of San Vincenzo Pallotti” gave the Pontiff a painting commemorating the “Saint Patrick’s massacre”, which occurred on 4 July 1976 during the military dictatorship in Argentina, in which the Pallottine priests Alfredo Leaden, Alfredo Kelly and Pedro Duffau and the seminarians Salvador Barbeito and Emilio Barletti were killed.
“The work of the artist Father Witold Urbanowicz is a source of inspiration and reinforces the missionary spirit and courage of the Pallottines who, today, put their lives on the line to announce the gospel of Jesus Christ and serve the Catholic Church in the peripheries of the world, in places plagued by wars and violence, such as Ukraine, Mozambique, northern India and Rwanda”, say the participants in the initiative.
Pope Francis personally knew the Argentine martyrs. When he was archbishop of Buenos Aires he visited the Parish of San Patricio several times where the massacre took place.”
