  1. Together with Eugene …
While walking on the sand your memory comes alive to me … your footsteps in the cold sand and the humid air that the sun had not yet warmed up … your long-sleeved shirt, your sun glasses, a book under your arm and the customary cigarette … how you enjoyed those solitary walks on the beach!
That is how you were. Having been in the company of others … you would return to your little world, to your room, with your music and engrossed in reading.
Your immense frame, your arms swinging and your long strides were also part of the daily life in the long corridors of the Fahy Institute. The rattle of that huge key-ring announced your presence. Dozens of keys which you alone could identify, one by one.
An infinity of shared moments, thousands of unforgettable anecdotes which, even with the passing of years, those who were with you in this place continue to remember because this was your space. Places which evoke laughter, rebukes, runs along the corridors, hugs, long chats and the certainty with which you responded to every unforeseen event gave security (even when you didn’t have a clue!).
Priest, friend, confessor, psychologist, teacher, student, pedagogical assessor, marriage counsellor, translator (with your own unique style), and also, electrician, plasterer, plumber and proficient at whatever presented itself. You were all of this and much more for all of us.
Your noble and generous heart was within your big person. A heart which opened to the extent which you alone wanted, but a heart capable of loving and of giving itself totally.
Our friendship was born in suffering. You needed our help, our presence, our strength in order to carry on, and without meaning to, you loved each one of us. And so it was that we got to know you and you started to be part of our family, becoming another brother. This all means that we are now sad by your absence, but we know (and we are sure) that you lived fully, in your own way, just as you wished.
Even though we cannot hear your, we can speak to you and this is the reason for these lines. We know that your love is embracing us, the memory of you brings a smile to our lips even in the midst of so many tears, and we want to say in words all that you mean to us.
Dear Eugene, now it’s your time to rest with God. We ask you not to be too hard on Him, since it is thanks to His designs that our paths crossed.
    You are always with us.

“The Love of God motivates us.”

    Father Eugene Lynch:

His time at the Private Institute of San Luis.
Father Eugene Lynch is no longer with us. He left us on the 31st of December 2021. He had left Suipacha some years earlier, we bid him farewell in the church on the 18th of February 2000. However, we who had the privilege of sharing with him a great deal of time in the task of education, continued to feel that he was still present, in some form.
In the Institute of San Luis he built, for others, a strong foundation that allowed us to grow together, with a steady rhythm, permitting that the individuals grew into a team with the objective of reaching an ideal, and this ideal became a reality thought the efforts of all, journeying together towards a common objective. In this way the foundation became a scaffolding. A scaffolding on which we walked while observing respect, prudence, the power of observation, the desire to always progress in seeking excellence.
He was an acute observer of reality, his starting point was often “… well, this is what we have …”, and coupled with his advanced ideas on management, he knew how to bring out the strengths and weaknesses of each one. He broke down structures, he took apart, and then he remade, he taught us to observe, to think, to put into practice, to evaluate, to debate and to take decisions.
This is how the primary school in the Institute of San Luis was brought into existence. Under his critical and constructive gaze. With his Christian ideals as the flag for the Large Family of San Luis, he strove always to integrate the Primary School with the Secondary School which already existed. INTEGRATION was his constant search: to integrate work teams, to integrate the teachers with the families, to integrate the Parents Association, to seek out and provide all the means necessary to integrate the students with different needs into the education system
He always sought more, and he made us part of that.
Eugene was, and is, like a good book, from which one emerges changed from what one was on starting to read the first page. Like a good book. Those books to which one can always, always return. Thank you!
